Tandem PV is working to commercialize their perovskite solar panel, which is more efficient and less expensive than silicon-only solar panels. Perovskite is a synthetic crystalline material that is sensitive to certain wavelengths of light that conventional solar panels do not efficiently convert to electricity. Tandem PV’s design exceeds the output of conventional solar modules by stacking them with thin film perovskite, resulting in a 30-40% increase in efficiency. The climate crisis urgently requires the world to achieve net zero, and solar is the cheapest source of clean power. However, solar tech needs to be much cheaper to help accelerate the market transition. Tandem PV offers a solution to this problem, by supplying a product that is cheaper to manufacture than average silicon panels without compromising on durability.
