True Moringa is a supplier of natural skincare, health, and wellness products from the African continent. In Ghana, the majority of farmers live on less than $1.90 per day and face food insecurity. Additionally, erratic rainfall and dry periods stemming from climate change threaten farmer livelihoods. True Moringa has designed a solution to the issues of poverty, food insecurity, and climate change through a vertical integration supply chain. They help farmers save, invest, and build credit through Village Savings and Loans Associations. True Moringa turns unproductive land into flourishing community farms where farmers grow organic trees and food intercrops regeneratively, thus generating income for farmers, providing food for their communities, and sequestering carbon. They transform crop harvests into superfood-powered food and beauty products, and then sell these products both in Ghana and globally through direct-to-consumer and retail sales channels (i.e. Whole Foods, Thrive Market, etc.). True Moringa also eliminates barriers for small farmers by providing resources that women and tribal minorities in small farming communities need, like child care and transportation. So far, True Moringa has served 208 farmers, 72% of whom are women, and they have increased farmer income by 10x. Since the company has focused on keeping manufacturing jobs local, they have created more jobs along the supply chain and thus shifted the paradigm in West Africa, where most crops are exported without value addition. With their overall focus in fighting poverty, climate change, and food insecurity in Ghana, True Moringa has created 705 jobs, facilitated $1M in farmer income, planted 3 million trees, sequestered 34,251 MT of carbon, and helped unbanked farmers save a total of $1M.
