Who we are
Realize Impact is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to fund and support impactful startups. We help companies that are tackling the most important social and environmental problems facing our world.
Founded in 2013, our three main programs include philanthropic investing, fiscal sponsorships, and impact partnerships with other nonprofits. Since 2020, we have moved more than $85 million of philanthropic capital into impact investments around the globe, $30 million of which was through our fiscal sponsorship program. All our programs are growing rapidly. To accommodate this momentum, we are bolstering our staffing, systems and capacity.
We bring the rigorous analytical skills we have developed while working in the impact investing industry along with hands-on operational expertise launching and scaling both for-profit and revenue-generating nonprofit organizations. We hold ourselves to high standards of integrity, and are looking to build a best-in-class, diverse, and collaborative team to achieve meaningful social and environmental impact around the world. Our current team works remotely from locations in Washington State, Oregon, Texas, and New York.
Who we are looking for
We are seeking an early-career professional who is passionate about social and environmental impact. In this role, you will receive hands-on experience in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment, and you will also contribute to the organization’s development and strategy. You will leave an indelible mark on our culture and the success of our grantees while growing your career. You will report to the Managing Director and work closely with her and the Senior Investment Associate on a daily basis to achieve our strategic goals.
Rapid growth requires flexibility on behalf of all team members, and specific duties likely will evolve over time. To start, primary responsibilities include:
Program administration (80%): Under supervision by the Managing Director, you will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of our fiscal sponsorship program.
- Review applications, conduct due diligence, prepare fiscal sponsorship memos for our IC, and present proposals at IC meetings (currently twice a month).
- Onboard new fiscally sponsored organizations, track and distribute fiscal sponsorship donations, and process annual renewals of fiscal sponsorships.
- Serve as primary point of contact for fiscally sponsored organizations.
- Oversee the internal financial reporting for the fiscal sponsorship program, which includes updating our tracking systems and saving documentation to our Google Drive.
- Manage donor communications, gift acknowledgements and tax receipts, grant notifications, and reporting related to our fiscal sponsorship program.
Organizational development and marketing (10%): You will help foster the growth of our organization by contributing to marketing materials (such as our monthly newsletter and blog), thought leadership, branding, and social media posts, in partnership with other team members.
Special projects (10%): You will be encouraged to take initiative on and ownership of special projects as needed or requested.
Qualifications
Remember that qualification lists on job postings are best scenario wishlists. If you meet at least 60% of the listed qualifications, we encourage you to apply. If you have experience that you think has prepared you to excel in this role but is not listed here, we encourage you to apply. We value passion for our mission and teachability more than specific experience or skills.
The ideal candidate brings:
- University degree or equivalent work experience
- 3-5 years of experience in project finance, project management, nonprofit program administration, impact measurement/management, or similar areas
- High attention to detail: while we will be on hand to assist, we must trust team members to manage their own work and hold themselves accountable to high standards
- Clear and effective communicator both verbally and in writing. This role involves a large amount of written communication with a variety of stakeholders; we are looking for someone with strong writing skills
- Solid time management
- Intrinsic motivation: you are adept at figuring out what you need to work on to achieve your objectives. You will receive guidance, but you won’t be micromanaged
- Growth mindset: we are seeking someone who is excited by the potential to learn in our evolving organization and culture
- Comfort with ambiguity and change: until 2021, Realize Impact was run on a volunteer basis. We have had full-time staff since 2023, and are in the process of shoring up our systems and processes as demand for our services grows. In the course of your work, you may discover gaps in need of solutions, and you will be expected and encouraged to problem solve, with the support of the Managing Director and other team members
If you also have one or more of the following, we are especially interested in hearing from you:
- Experience with fiscal sponsorship programs
- MBA, Master of Nonprofit Management, or equivalent graduate degree or work experience
- Experience in social media, email and/or web marketing
- Fluency in French or Spanish
- At least one year of fully remote work experience
