Matriark Foods makes healthy vegetable pantry staples that eliminate food waste by upcycling farm surplus and fresh-cut remnants. Their products reduce greenhouse gasses, provide more revenue for farmers, and create greater access to healthy food.

Anna Hammond, founder and CEO of Matriark Foods

Thirty-seven percent of all food grown in the U.S. is wasted, a third of which is edible and fresh. Sending food to landfills not only results in lost revenue, but also creates methane, which is 86x more potent than CO2. At the same time, 34 million people in the U.S. are lacking reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable and nutritious food, including 9 million children.

Example of Matriark Foods product, Vegetable Harvest Stew

Matriark has designed seven products (Upcycled Vegetable Concentrate, Liquid Mirepoix, Onion Puree, Passata, Vegetable Harvest Stew, and Broccoli Soup) to help tackle the aforementioned issues. These products have also yielded a scalable supply chain where 3 million pounds of upcycled farm surplus and vegetable remnants can generate $1.2 million in revenue directly for farmers. Matriark customers and distributors include Google, Whole Foods, Fresh Direct, Misfits Market, Feeding America, and Compass Group.
