The TinySuperheroes Story
Robyn and her family call themselves blessed with the task of building TinySuperheroes from the ground up! TinySuperheroes is a tiny cape company with a super BIG mission to empower Extraordinary kids who exemplify strength and determination as they overcome illness or disability. When you buy a cape for a special kid in your life, they’ll donate another cape to a kid with TinySuperhero powers! In August 2012, Robyn dusted off her sewing machine and made a superhero cape for her nephew’s second birthday. Then she made one for her son and my dog. Sewing superhero capes became a fun hobby – something to do in the midst of being a new mom working full time for a software company.
During this time, she had been following the blog of a sweet girl named Brenna who was born with a very rare and severe skin disorder. Brenna was born just 2 months after Robyn’s son and with that connection, Robyn became invested in Brenna’s journey, reading her blog daily. One day it clicked – while Robyn’s nephew and son looked cute in their capes, Brenna needed one! Robyn contacted Brenna’s family and sent her and her Super Sidekick brother capes in January 2013. In that moment, TinySuperheroes was born.
A small hobby of making capes turned into a movement in just months. 6 months after sending Super Brenna’s cape Robyn left her full time job and dove head first into empowering as many children as she could. In 2013, with the help of supporters all over the world, TinySuperheros sewed and sent over 4,000 capes to Extraordinary kids in all 50 states and 16 countries. Children with cancer, congenital heart defects, rare diseases, Autism, and all sorts of other TinySuperhero powers have revealed their true identities through their capes. These Extraordinary children and their families have taught Robyn and team how to be joyful, grateful, hopeful and strong. Because of them, TinySuperheros is charging forward in its mission – to empower all TinySuperheroes everywhere one cape at a time!
