Realize Impact is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to fund and support impactful startups. We help companies that are tackling the most important social and environmental problems facing our world.

Founded in 2013, our three main programs include philanthropic investing, fiscal sponsorships, and impact partnerships with other nonprofits. Since launching our Philanthropic Investment Grant (PHIG) service in 2020, we have moved nearly $40 million of philanthropic capital into impact investments around the globe. All our programs are growing rapidly. To accommodate this momentum, we are bolstering our staffing, systems and capacity.

We bring the rigorous analytical skills we have developed while working in the impact investing industry along with hands-on operational expertise launching and scaling both for-profit and revenue-generating nonprofit organizations. We hold ourselves to high standards of integrity, and are looking to build a best-in-class, diverse and collaborative team to achieve meaningful social and environmental impact around the world. Our current team works remotely from locations on Bainbridge Island, WA and in nearby Seattle.

We are seeking an early-career professional who is passionate about investing to achieve social and environmental impact. In this role, you will receive hands-on experience in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment, and you will also contribute to the organization’s development and strategy. You will leave an indelible mark on our culture and the success of our investees and grantees while growing your career. You will report to the Operations Director and work closely with her on a daily basis to achieve our strategic goals.

Rapid growth requires flexibility on behalf of all team members, and specific duties likely will evolve over time. To start, primary responsibilities include:

Program administration (50%): Under supervision by the Operations Director, you will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of our three core programs:

  • Philanthropic Investment Grants: Review donor investment recommendations, conduct due diligence, prepare investment memos for our investment committee (IC), participate in monthly IC meetings, process returns to donor-advised funds (DAFs) or other 501(c)(3) organizations as recommended by donors
  • Fiscal sponsorship: Review applications, conduct due diligence, prepare fiscal sponsorship memos for our IC, onboard new fiscally sponsored organizations, track and on-grant fiscal sponsorship donations, and process annual renewals of fiscal sponsorships
  • Impact partnerships: Support Operations Director and Executive Director in approval and setup of new partnerships, and track donations and investee repayments

Donor/Partner relations (20%): We receive donations from an array of foundations, DAF sponsors, corporations, and individuals. You will help the Operations Director manage donor communications, gift acknowledgements, and reporting. You will send grant notification emails to fiscally sponsored organizations and DAF sponsors.

Financial management (20%): You will support the Operations Director in the daily financial management of our three programs, including updating our tracking systems and Quickbooks Online, and saving documentation to our Google Drive.

Organizational development and marketing (10%): You will help foster the growth of our organization by contributing to marketing materials, thought leadership, branding, and social media posts.

Remember that qualification lists on job postings are best scenario wishlists. If you meet at least 60% of the listed qualifications, we encourage you to apply. If you have experience that you think has prepared you to excel in this role but is not listed here, we encourage you to apply. We value passion for our mission and teachability more than specific experience or skills.

The ideal candidate brings:

  • University degree or equivalent work experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in project finance, investment banking, project management, nonprofit program administration, impact measurement/management, or similar areas
  • High attention to detail: while we will be on hand to assist, we must trust team members to manage their own work and hold themselves accountable to high standards
  • Clear and effective communicator both verbally and in writing. This role involves a large amount of written communication with a variety of stakeholders; we are looking for a strong writer
  • Solid time management skills
  • Intrinsic motivation: you are adept at figuring out what you need to work on to achieve your objectives. You will receive guidance, but you won’t be micromanaged
  • Growth mindset: we are seeking someone who is excited by the potential to learn in our evolving organization and culture
  • Comfort with ambiguity and change: until 2021, Realize Impact was run on a volunteer basis. We have had full-time staff since 2023, and are in the process of shoring up our systems and processes as demand for our services grows. In the course of your work, you may stumble upon gaps in need of solutions, and you will be expected and encouraged to problem solve, with the support of the Operations Director

If you also have one or more of the following, we are especially interested in hearing from you:

  • MBA, Master of Nonprofit Management, or equivalent graduate degree or work experience
  • Experience in Quickbooks Online, Asana, Airtable
  • Experience in social media marketing
  • Fluency in French or Spanish

Location: We are a fully remote organization, however, all current team members live in the Seattle metro area. The ideal candidate will live here or be willing to relocate, but we are open to candidates throughout the US. This position must be available during core West Coast business hours Monday-Friday, but the exact work schedule is negotiable.

Start date: Q2 2024

Compensation: Total compensation for this role is between $66,850-$87,650. The total annual compensation package includes base salary ($50,000-$70,000) + up to $9,600 HRA + up to $5,250 student loan repayment/tuition assistance + 4% 401k company match.

Benefits:

  • Flexible PTO: We don’t have a set holiday or vacation schedule, so you can observe what’s important to you–including when your body and mind need a break.
  • Company 401k match: 100% match on the first 3% of your pay, and 50% match on the next 2% of your pay
  • Health Reimbursement Arrangement: In lieu of company-sponsored health insurance, employees receive monthly reimbursement of their qualified health expenses up to $800/month, which can be used on health insurance premiums, copays, and other eligible out-of-pocket medical expenses
  • Section 127 Qualified Educational Assistance Plan: Company payments towards qualified educational expenses, such as tuition or student loan repayments
  • Financial assistance to set up a home office if you don’t already have one (for example, an external monitor or ergonomic desk chair)
